EAT IN BALI
In Bali, eating is more than sustenance—it becomes a joyful expression of culture, fellowship, and gratitude. Our journey begins in Nusa Dua, where days of leisure allow us to relax and enjoy the vibrant flavors of Balinese cuisine. Whether indulging in fresh seafood during a sunset dinner at the iconic Tanah Lot Temple or sharing laughter over hotel breakfasts, every meal becomes an opportunity to connect. Food in Bali isn’t just delicious—it’s meaningful. From spicy sambal to fragrant rice dishes, we’ll explore how culinary traditions can speak to the heart and draw us closer in community.
Later in Ubud, we’ll deepen our appreciation through a hands-on cooking class that takes us from bustling local markets to our own handmade feast. As we select produce, learn traditional recipes, and cook side by side, we celebrate the gift of nourishment and the beauty of shared experience. Eating together throughout this journey reminds us of God’s provision and the joy found in gathering around the table—whether with old friends or new faces brought together by faith.
PRAY IN BALI
Prayer is the heartbeat of this trip, and Bali’s natural and spiritual beauty provides the perfect backdrop for sacred reflection. In the quiet mornings at Nusa Dua and the serene evenings in Ubud, we’ll create intentional space to connect with God—through personal devotion, group reflection, and the gentle rhythm of rest. As we visit temples like Tanah Lot and Goa Gajah, we’ll reflect not on the differences in belief, but on our shared human longing for the divine, using each sacred space as a prompt to draw nearer to the Lord in humility and reverence.
The spiritual journey continues in the heart of Ubud, where stillness meets the soul. Whether praying in solitude beside forested paths or offering thanks after an awe-inspiring encounter with elephants in Taro, we are reminded that God speaks through creation, people, and peace. More than just a word, “Serve” is a word that will come alive in our relationships—with each other, with nature, and with God. As part of this adventure we will join with HOPEww in Bali and experience opportunities to serve the local community. Through shared laughter, deep conversations, and moments of awe, we’ll leave Bali not just refreshed, but transformed—carrying with us not only souvenirs, but a renewed sense of purpose and a heart full of grace.
Our Spiritual - and Service - Directors:
Marc and Keri Aguirre
Marc and Keri Aguirre bring decades of ministry experience to this role, along with a deep passion for serving others in need.
Marc currently serves as the South Africa Country Director and Global Metrics & Coordination Lead for HOPE worldwide, where he has worked for over 33 years. Keri is an Associate Life Coach with Live Your Vision and also teaches French part-time.
Marc became a disciple of Jesus in 1990 while completing his medical degree in Johannesburg, South Africa. Keri was baptized in Boston in 1985 and, after graduating from Northeastern University in 1988, moved to Johannesburg to serve in the campus ministry. It was there that she met Marc, and they married in June 1993.
Soon after, the couple moved to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, where they lived and ministered for nearly a decade. Marc led HOPE worldwide’s HIV/AIDS clinic and developed several community-based initiatives in Abidjan and across Africa, while Keri provided administrative support and contributed to the mission in numerous ways.
In 2003, they returned to South Africa where Marc continued his work with HOPE worldwide. Their three sons were born in Côte d’Ivoire, and their daughter in South Africa.
For over 20 years, Marc and Keri have served in the Johannesburg Church of Christ in a variety of roles, including leading marriage and parenting workshops. They currently serve as family group leaders and are part of the church’s shepherding team, where they continue to guide and support others in their spiritual walk.
Their commitment to God's mission, experience in global ministry, and heart for spiritual mentorship make them well-suited to lead and inspire others on this transformative journey to Bali.
